When I started my personal blog, I never even thought about the impact that social media could have on my “business”. Number one, I didn’t look at my blog as a business and number two, I didn’t intend to use it as a business. Four years later, I can’t help but wonder where my little space on the internet would be if I’d really thought about the impact of social media.
The same holds true for your business. Ask yourself this question –
How important is my business to me?
I’m guessing it’s pretty important. The hours you work, the money you’ve invested, and the dream you envision years from now.
Now ask yourself:
How important is social media for my business?
I’ve learned that social media plays a huge role in business. Whether you’re looking to increase site hits or sales, up your marketing strategy, deal with customer service issues in a timely manner, or simply interact with your customers/readers like you never have before. Social media allows you to do all of these and more.
If your goal is to grow your business beyond your immediate surroundings, the internet is the way to do it and social media helps you reach customers you wouldn’t reach otherwise.
If you’re overwhelmed with the thought of one more thing to manage, try these simple steps.
- Set up a Facebook fan page or Twitter account.
- Commit to posting one article, resource, or promotional post per week.
- Keep up with it and increase your promotional efforts as you’re able.
Just start small. Your business will thank you for it!
